Decoupage and Painted Glass

All glass decoupage began as clear glass items. The color has been applied, sometimes in layers, to achieve the appearance of colored glass and the items are then given several coats of glossy varathane for a glasslike appearance. Decoupage items may be washed but are not dishwasher safe and should not be submerged in water.

The decoupage items best illustrate my interest in classic film and the old school kitsch that I recall from the New Wave New York in which I grew up. My daughter and I lived in Hawaii for several years which also is evident in some of my pieces. Generally I just use images that I find appealing for one reason or another whether humorous, kitchy or visual. Some can be duplicated and some not. I can also decoupage the photo of a loved one onto an object if requested. In some cases the colors are layered so that the interior is different from the exterior or the back of the plate different from the front. There are also a few items pictured with handpainted designs that have no decoupage elements.
